Hastākshar Issue #14: Do shāstras Say: Male, Female and Others? (Hastākshar #14)

Hello,

Are you enjoying the early monsoon weather?

With Mumbai turned iento Lonavala, I can’t get enough of the greenery around.

It’s June and the internet is filled with #PrideMonth posts in the last two weeks.

But what does that mean for seekers like us?

Of course, we logically understand that hate, discrimination and predudice are bad.

Love, inclusion, and peace are good.

But when we see the avatars of

Vishnu as Mohini,

Arjun as Brihannala,

Shiva as Ardhanishwar,

Or Shikhandi,

What are the shāstras trying to say?

Are they ratifying alternate genders?

Asking us to be considerate of those who are not like us?

Or simply acknowledging the Yin and Yang/ Masculine and Feminine in every soul?

Too many questions. And every answer brings us closer to our ultimate self.

While the laymen see genders and orientation as a problem,

The wise men see desire as the root of trouble.

While others bicker about who they love,

I want to figure out why do I still hate. And how I can rid myself of it.

For the day we eliminate hatred, is the day we can truly celebrate with #Pride.
