Hello dost, kaise ho aaj?
Last week was a particularly happy week for all of us, right? Especially with the Indian hockey team bringing home a medal – ending a spell of 41 years.
The commentators were emotional. They cried.
We, too, read and watched different versions of the win in the media. Thousands of reels made, so many topical posts – every brand wanted to plug themselves in the celebration.
But then came Neeraj Chopra – a gold, an upgrade.
And all other Indian sportsmen were forgotten. Deepak Punia’s wrestling silver medal didn’t receive the limelight.
Perhaps our hunger for new content pushes us to move on too quickly.
We can easily shake off one thing and move to another.
The older one is of no further use to our curiosity. It fails to give us excitement.
Forgetting the past and moving on is spiritual.
But not in this context. Our behaviour highlights our hunger for the new, so much so that we fail to appreciate the good, get the joy out of what we already have.
If not Neeraj Chopra, it would have been something else.
A scandal. A new song/movie. Perhaps a war.
Patriotism aside, let’s think practically: if we always seek ‘the next,’ will we ever be happy.
If you’re read this email till here, I know you find value here.
Stop what you’re doing. Forget the next.
Just close your eyes, breathe, smile.
Let’s be happy for what is. The next will automatically come soon.
Btw, my ‘next’ is professional success.
What is the next you’re looking for? Please reply – I’d love to know.
