Hastākshar Issue #41: Paint it red. Even if it doesn’t involve you.

Hello, how are you doing?

Gearing up for Christmas?

Waiting for an old man with a giant belly laughing ‘Ho Ho Ho?’

The bright lights, red and green decor with fake snowflakes…

You must have already started feeling a little lazy.

Got into the holiday mood.

Shifted a few tasks to ‘after New Year’s Eve.’

While doing these, ask yourself:

How did Christmas become a part of your life?

How did it become the ‘Sunday’ of the year?

I was raised a Gujarati Jain. Yet I have rarely not had Christmas events or parties.

From Secret Santa to rum cakes, we all find ourselves red with Christmas fever.

How did this happen?

Sigmund Frued has the answer.

In the Pain-Pleasure Principle, he states that we all are naturally driven away from pain and towards pleasure.

The same thing happens here.

If Christmas gives you an escape from your mundane tasks, work that you don’t like and repetitive routine, you’ll grab that opportunity.

Doesn’t matter if it’s Christ’s Birthday or Buddha’s.

If there’s a slight opportunity of pleasure, there will be demand for it.

The only question is: are you aware why you’re doing what you’re doing?

Wish you happy holidays (or the lack of it – in a few organisations).
