Hastākshar Issue #52: Should I even write Hastākshar?

Last week was a roller coaster. I was away for a seva trip (hence couldn’t speak with you on Friday – sorry about that).

Around 11pm Saturday night, I finished up my reports for the next day.

My allotted workspace was a dispensary-turned-back office.

It was a tiny 6×6 room at the entrance of a Dharamshala.

Done for the day, I left for my room when an angry voice called out to me.

“Arre bhai, kya kar rahe ho?

Darwaza bandh karo, koi ghus jayega.”

I was dazed due to the lack of sleep, but still in my senses to know that I’d not made a blunder.

I asked, “Why do you want to lock a publicly accessible room? Even if I shut the door and put on the kundi, anyone can open it. We don’t have a lock or key, either.”

Nahi, nahi. Kundi lagao. Koi ghus jayega.”

He was irritated, unwilling to listen to my point of view. All he knew was putting on the kundi (that anyone can open) was a do-or-die thing.

Not wanting to turn it into a conflict, I complied.

But as I shut the door and walked towards my room, I smiled at the life lesson.

There are so many things that we do just for the sake of it.

No value added. No necessity. No logic.

Bas karne ka.

That made me ask myself: Should I even write Hastākshar?

I got my answer, and here I am – writing it late, but with clarity.

I hope that you find your questions and answers, too.

Wishing you a great week!
