Last week, everyone seemed to love how Krishna helped Draupadi when she totally surrendered to him.
A very spiritual way to live life, indeed.
But today’s story trumps that. How?
Because this one says that there’s something more powerful than God and his wishes.
Not going to confuse you anymore. Let’s begin.
There was a young couple: Arjun and Kaveri. Good people. They had been blessed with everything, except a child.
Arjun had a great relationship with god. So Kaveri regularly pleaded with him, ‘Why don’t you ask God to give us the joy of being parents?’
He ignored her. ‘God has a plan for everything. If he hasn’t given us a child, it is for the best.’
But her requests turned into cries. Unable to see her unhappy, he asked his dear friend god to bless them with a child.
God was silent. That was not the plan.
‘Arjun, I never intended for you to have a child. But you’re a good man. I cannot deny your request either. But be aware: this will not be a normal child. He will not live a normal life. On the day he turns 16, he will die.’
Arjun was shocked. Which human, let alone a father, could bear to see the death of a 16-year old?
But Kaveri insisted, ‘Wouldn’t it be better to be parents for 16 years than not be parents at all?’ Arjun gave in.
And along came a beautiful boy. They named him Arya.
They showered him with every ounce of love they had.
While Kaveri devoted her life to his happiness, Arjun got sadder with every passing day; fully knowing that his son’s death is approaching them faster than they could imagine.
And came Arya’s 16th birthday.
Arjun was weeping, guilty that he’d brought life in the world only to force the pain of death on it.
Kaveri was in shock, too. She had become too attached to Arya. She couldn’t bear the thought of losing him.
‘Arjun, god is such good friends with you. Why don’t you request him to extend Arya’s lifespan?’
“Kaveri, why do you want to interfere with his plan? Surrender! What he does, he does for the best.’
‘No, I can’t live without Arya. If he dies, I’ll die with him.’
Arjun froze in fear. He couldn’t imagine the pain of losing his entire family.
What do you think happens next?
Will Arjun convince god to change his mind?
Will Kaveri be separated from her son forever?
Will Arya, an innocent boy, unaware of his own death sentence, figure out what’s going on?
We’ll wait until next week to find out.
Until then, let’s pray that everyone, everywhere remains happy with god’s plan for them.
