Hastākshar Issue #66: Is knowing good? Or disastrous?

When did you last hear of Sahdev?

A brave warrior.

Extremely intelligent.

Prince of Hastinapur.

Husband to the most beautiful woman in the world.

He was even spiritually inclined!

He had everything we ever dream of having.

But he was sadder than most of us.

Sahdev had the gift of foresight.

He could see the future – everything.

No reason to be anxious, right?

Yet, he found it difficult to live.

He couldn’t accept what reality had in store for him, his brothers, his wife, his children.

He foresaw their death. Their doom.

And there was nothing that he could do about it.

Instead of making peace with it, he tried to run away from it.

Sahdev, the same man we praised in the beginning, took shelter in alcohol.

To numb his mind, and the pain it gave him.

What good is knowledge if it causes us pain?

You can see through your partner’s insecurities and deceit faster.

You may be able to understand the world better.

You identify every speck of darkness within, that is nibbling at your soul.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that knowledge is a curse.

Apparently there were many others who knew much more than Sahdev, yet they happily went about their lives.

I simply mean to say that if knowledge isn’t bringing you ‘aanand’ you better stop classifying it as knowledge and work on it.
