Hastāshar – Issue #4: Hastāshar: The Mechanics of Decision-Making

Hello, how are you doing today?

Another long weekend. And this surely gives us a lot of time to think about what’s going inside us. Welcome back to Hastāshar – where we speak about ideas, thoughts and feelings.

On Wednesday, I finally identified who makes all my decisions for me. And I feel it’s the same person for you, too. No, we don’t make any of our choices. Nor is it God, the government or our family.

All our decisions are made by our future self. There are two futures: one is better, the other is worse than what we are. When you choose pizza over healthy greens or procrastination over productivity, you can be aware of what your future looks like. Because only an unhealthy, non-motivated future self would make these choices.

However, if you see yourself exercising instead of ignoring health, building relationships instead of being self-centred, you can very well estimate that your future self is a conscious, caring person.

Although this is my crude thought and will be refined over the years, what do you think of it? Please reply – I’d love to know.

Wish you a fulfilling weekend!
